Say hello to Choicey!
Choicey is an 18 year old, 15.2hh, chestnut, thoroughbred gelding who is looking for a home as a non-ridden companion.
Choicey is an extremely handsome boy who is looking for a perfect partner experienced with thoroughbreds as he does display behaviours typical of the breed. Choicey is full of character and is a firm favourite on the yard. He always offers his very best smile when it’s time for breakfast. He enjoys regular handling and grooming from his handlers.
Choicey thrives when in a consistent routine and still has a real zest for life; age is just a number after all! He spent a large portion of his life prior to coming to Bransby Horses in a racing environment so has become accustomed to his comforts such as being stabled overnight and turned out in the day, fed at set times and a constant routine. Typical of the breed, any changes in his routine can unsettle him and he becomes worried if his friends are taken away. He is generally good to handle, though can be sensitive to having rugs on, threatening to nip so would benefit from a perfect partner experienced with these behaviours.
Choicey loves his routine of being stabled overnight and turned out in the day – we have transitioned him to living out 24/7 with access to a shelter for the summer months.
Rugs: He wears a fly rug through summer, a middle weight rug in autumn and a heavy weight rug in winter.
Choicey has only lived with geldings since being with us at Bransby Horses, though has happily stabled next to mares with no issue. He benefits from living with horses with similar management needs and size to himself.
Choicey receives a feed twice a day which his danilon is put into.
In summer he receives a small scoop of fibre twice a day, in winder he receives a scoop of fibre and a scoop of comp balancer twice a day with added oil.
Farrier: Choicey is shod in front and is good for the farrier.
Dentist: Sedated as standard Bransby Horses procedure. Choicey receives 6 monthly dentals due to his age.
Choicey can be sensitive to having rugs on, threatening to nip.
Vet: Choicey has a history of ulcers which have been treated and resolved. He has had his back medicated for mild kissing spine and has hind-limb lameness.
Medication: He is on danilon daily.
