Say hello to Mario and Luigi!

Mario is a 11hh, 4 year old, skewbald donkey gelding and Luigi is a 10.2hh, 4 year old brown and grey donkey gelding. These fantastic boys are ready to find a loving home together.

Mario and Luigi are a bonded pair who must be rehomed together. Donkeys create strong bonds with one another, and are joined at the hip once this bond is made, this is no different for Mario and Luigi. These lovely boys have been best friends since before they came to Bransby Horses. They love playtime, you can often find them tumbling around together, playing tug of war with each other, taking turns chasing each other and lots of other mischief! Although they can play rough with one another, when it comes to their handlers they are very gentle. They are both extremely friendly and loving with humans and they will stand for hours being scratched and cuddled. Mario will often follow our team members around, patiently waiting for the attention he knows he deserves.

Mario is the more dominant of the two donkeys. He is extremely food orientated, and can get a bit defensive around feed time and will kick out if anyone gets too close. We ensure to give Mario plenty of space when he has his feed, so that he doesn’t feel that he must defend himself. He can become strong when leading, however this is usually due to excitement and he will quickly settle when the initial excitement passes. Although Luigi is more passive, he is just as full of character! Luigi is a very polite boy who loves his routine. He knows that after feed time is hoof picking time, so he will form a queue and patiently wait his turn. He is so clever and extremely quick to learn!

Mario and Luigi are looking for a Perfect Partner who is experienced with handling donkeys. Due to their young age, they must continue their training and education to ensure they continue to develop into well rounded donkeys. As with most young equines, they can become cheeky if not in a consistent routine with regular handling. It is imperative that they receive daily hoof picking to ensure continued hoof health and good manners when having their hooves done.

They are extremely clever boys who enjoy learning new things, including interacting with new enrichment activities, in-hand walks together, and of course, playing with anything and everything they can get their teeth on! Keeping their minds active is essential to their overall wellbeing.

Mario and Luigi live out 24/7 with access to shelter and hard standing in the Summer months. When it becomes more cold and wet, they join their herd in our donkey barn to stay warm and dry.
