Introducing Tonto and Sam

Tonto has been with Sam and family for five years, here’s their story – straight from the horse’s mouth.

“I joined my family during the summer of 2015. My mum says I’m the cheekiest pony she has ever met and we have the best fun together. We hack out in all sorts of weather, we have had jumping and flatwork lessons and over the last year, we have been having western lessons at Oakridge Arena. I have dismounted her on top a few times, by accident of course, (cheeky) so she invested in a western saddle to try and keep on board. It did the trick, I can’t seem to shake her off now! We are learning to neck rein (I’m getting pretty good at it) and I love being ridden on a looser rein, I think she trusts me more now.

We have other horses and cows where I live. I used to be very scared of the cows, they are loud and smell bad! Now I’m really brave, just today mum said I had my brave pants on because I helped herd 85 huge cows from their barn to their field. Mum was so happy with me and gave me extra carrots in my breakfast.

Once this locked thing is over we will continue with our western lessons and I would like to learn how to round those cows up, especially if it means I get extra food…
