Bransby Horses could not function without the help and support from its volunteers who dedicate their time. The charity has many volunteers who work alongside staff on the yard caring for the horses, in offices to provide admin support, in the café and helping at external and internal events to promote the work of the charity and fundraise. Last week Bransby Horses took part in national Volunteers week to celebrate the work of its volunteers.
Volunteers were treated to specialist demonstrations of the handling process used here at the charity on rescued horses with the unique opportunity to get involved themselves. This was thoroughly enjoyed by many that didn’t have a volunteer role specifically on a yard but wanted to learn more about horses at the charity and be hands on with the horses. Volunteers thoroughly enjoyed their opportunity to try something new and learn more about natural horsemanship.
They were also visited by senior management for a ‘behind the scenes’ talk about roles at Bransby Horses that many of the volunteers may not interact with on a regular basis while volunteering. The day was finished off with a delicious buffet where they had the opportunity to chat to other volunteers and staff to ask any questions and learn what other opportunities Bransby Horses has to offer.
Being a volunteer at Bransby Horses is not only rewarding because it is directly, or in directly, helping to care for the horses at the charity, but because there is a sense of team work and unity when you spend your time helping and become part of the ‘Bransby family’.
Volunteer Coordinator, Kirsty Mathieson, said: “Our volunteers are crucial to the work we do the charity and many things such as the Donated Goods and Tack Shop just wouldn’t be possible without them. We are very lucky that we have such willing and dedicated volunteers, many of which have a few jobs roles which is why celebrating their success is very important to us. We want our volunteers to feel included in what is going on and feel part of the team. We hope that this afternoon has helped with that and has inspired them to continue with their volunteering”.
