On the 5th July 2017, the team at Bransby Horses welcomed 30 Friends of Bransby Horses to the Lincoln site for an informative and enjoyable day. The day began with a talk on future plans and strategic objectives from the charity’s CEO, Jo Snell; followed by a Handling Demonstration with Lion King mare, Zazu, from the Specialist Handling Team on the Peter Hunt Yard. The Handling Demonstration included Round Pen Handling Skills whilst Equine Welfare Assistant, Jo Plummer, explained various handling issues in feral and semi-feral equines. To conclude before a lunch break, the guests enjoyed a demonstration from the experienced Rehoming Team with Aled, who was rescued from the Welsh Mountains in Mid Glamorgan in 2012. The team showed their visitors the methods of backing and lunging to progress Aled to one day be a ridden horse and find his forever home.
The Friends of Bransby Horses spent the afternoon in an educational talk with Veterinary Consultant, Jeremy Kemp Symonds BA (Hons), BSc (Hons), MSc, BVMS, PGCHE, MRSB, MRCVS on Equine Mortality. The donkeys on the Visitor Centre Yard enjoyed meeting our VIP’s during a talk on their care; popular donkey residents including Matilda, Ebony, Domino, Nero and Nipper took part.
We were sad to say goodbye to our Friends of Bransby Horses after such a fantastic day, we hope to welcome many of them back soon.
