You may remember the story of Amethyst, Diamond, Emerald, Peridot and Tanzanite, who came into our care in January last year in what Bransby Horses described as one of the most ‘shocking cases of neglect they had ever seen’. Alongside the RSPCA and Lincolnshire Police, Bransby Horses assisted in the rescue of these five Arab horses from appalling conditions.
Their owner pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and received a suspended sentence from Leicester Crown Court of four weeks imprisonment; suspended for 12 months with a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to a maximum of 20 days. Rebecca McEvoy was ordered to pay an £80.00 victim surcharge, £250.00 costs to the RSCPA and was also disqualified from keeping horses for five years.
After months of intensive care to nurture them back to full health, the five Arabs are now enjoying a quiet life at the charity, receiving the correct care and attention that they deserve.
Amethyst is currently living on Main Yard and spending her time with two-year-old cob, Gromit. A few weeks ago, Amethyst banged her leg on a wall leaving a large wound, so she has spent the past few weeks inside to enable her leg to heal. She will begin to be turned out into a field soon with her friend Gromit. She loves being close to the yard as she gets to greet lots of visitors.
Diamond, Emerald, Peridot and Tanzanite are all enjoying life on the Visitor Centre Yard and love attention from their many admirers.
We hope that one day, all five Arab mares will find loving homes. Our ‘Friend for Life’ rehoming scheme offers some of our equines the chance to enjoy life in a carefully selected foster home, whilst freeing up time and space at the charity for the rescue and rehabilitation of more animals in need of help.
