Horses have long been part of the British identity and are, quite simply, incredible creatures. They have done so much for people over many centuries and their huge impact is a golden thread through our past, present and future. We owe them a great deal. We believe that horses, and all other equines, deserve the chance to have a healthy and happy life.
51 years ago, our charity was the dream of Peter Hunt, a man passionate about horses. Now, we have more than 1,000 equines in our care (430 on site and 520 in foster homes) and continue to take in approximately 100 more each year. Many of the animals in our care have not had a good start in life. We have seen what mistreatment and neglect can do to a horse and we make a promise to each one we rescue and take in, that we will do everything we can to give them a second chance at life. The good life they deserve.
It is a great time to be joining us. We are working on lots of exciting projects, such as the recent acquisition of 800 acres at Langworth and the development of land there, a Visitor Experience Project designed to engage more with people who visit the site in the hamlet of Bransby and an increase in team sizes to manage the increase in interest in us and demand for our support.
The Trustees of Bransby Horses are important and respected individuals who generously volunteer their time to assist with strategic decision-making and leading the charity. Day-to-day management is the role of the Chief Executive, Jo Snell, who is responsible for more than 150 staff and volunteers. The Trustees attend regular meetings, bringing their expertise and experience to the table. They also ensure the charity complies with the law, financial duties and Charity Commission guidelines.
Our Trustees work together in the best interests of our very special charity. Each Trustee is comfortable operating in a diverse team with other strong decision-makers but is also willing to contribute on matters in which they are particularly knowledgeable and experienced.
The Board is looking to appoint new Trustees and is seeking candidates who are brimming with confidence and enthusiasm. An appreciation of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules is desirable, as is a love of nature and people. Before applying, please ensure you have the time to attend regular meetings which are held during office hours at the Lincolnshire site, as well as special events (which tend to be held at weekends). Training is provided and expenses are paid.
If you feel you have the right qualities and wish to make a valuable contribution to our charity, please send your letter of application together with your CV to Debbie Hall at Bransby House, Bransby, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, LN1 2PH or via email: co-secretary@bransbyhorses.co.uk
Successful candidates will be invited to an informal meeting and tour of our beautiful site in Bransby. A subsequent Trustee Selection Day will provide a presentation of our charity and our work, which will be followed by a brief formal interview.
