The floods of 2019: update

5th February 2021

In November 2019 Bransby horses faced their biggest challenge yet … 140 acres of our land was flooded to protect homes in Lincoln.

Photos here show some of our Bransby fields after the devastating floods, which left large amounts of our land underwater. Teams worked tirelessly day and night to keep our equines out of the contaminated waters and muddy fields. This included herding horses out of flood waters to safety with a tractor.

We knew the land would need a lot of care and hard work by our Estates and Yard teams to aerate, fertilise, rest and over-seed the fields to help them recover, alongside quickly setting up facilities at our Barlings site to support the care of some of the horses who lost their fields due to the flooding.

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to every single one of our supporters who helped donate during this time. The flood appeal raised over £34,000 as well as people volunteering to help with horses and companies donating equipment.

We were so touched to see the massive response everyone made from donating to our appeal, offering help or donating goods. Without you, 2020 would have been even more difficult. We wanted to share with you some photos of the land a year on from the flooding to show what your donations have helped us to achieve. All of the flooded land is well on the road to recovery and we think you’ll agree are looking great, even for the middle of winter!
