Pets at Home Raise £1500 for Bransby Horses

15th February 2018

As the chosen charity for Pets at Home, Carlton Centre, Lincoln, Bransby Horses was delighted to accept a cheque for £1591.75. The money was raised through the Santa Paws Scheme during December when shoppers kindly donated at the tills.

Bransby Horses is very grateful for the support from Pets at Home, not only for the kind donation but also for allowing charity staff and volunteers to raise awareness in store of the work done at Bransby Horses. The charity is funded entirely by public donations, legacies and kind gestures such as these, without this support Bransby Horses couldn’t continue with its vital rescue and welfare work.

The charity currently has more than 400 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules on site and for those that can’t be rehomed they will remain in sanctuary care. At Walklands Farm, one of the charity’s yards, 39 of the 100 horses living there require permanent medication and the average total cost of medication for a month is £1000. High costs like these show just how important the Pets at Home donation is to help provide specialist care.

Horses such as Simba, who lives at Walklands Farm, require complex management and monitoring. Simba was struck with the disease Grass Sickness and as a consequence can no longer eat hay like other horses as he would choke. A donation like this significantly helps with the management of Simba as it could potentially contribute to his ongoing care, including the purchase of specialist feed that is safe for him to eat.

Bransby Horses would like to thank everyone who donated through the Santa Paws Scheme at Pets at Home for their support and generosity which will make a huge difference to the horses at the charity.
