Hello Pudding

Bransby Pudding was created by the team to create a magical and uplifting story to reflect the journey that so many of the horses, ponies, donkeys and mules that arrive here, go through.

Puddings breed is a Shetland pony. The Shetland pony is a Scottish breed of pony originating in the Shetland Isles in the north of Scotland and have existed in the Shetland Isles for over 2000 years and probably much longer.

Shetland Ponies are gentle, good-tempered, and very intelligent by nature. They make good children’s ponies, and are sometimes noted for having a “brave” character. They can be very opinionated or “cheeky” sometimes.

Puddings Story

When Pudding was rescued, she was very hungry, with sore and over grown feet. The team worked tirelessly to gain her trust, while everyday carefully bringing her back to health and making her feet better.

Poor foot care has a major impact on a horse’s wellbeing. The hoof is made of keratin – which is the same as our own nails and like us they must be kept short and tidy to give them the best health. Due to some very important bones within the hoof a bit like your own foot, if they are left to grow too long it can hurt the bones and cause pain. Ponies, like Pudding, aren’t light animals so imagine the amount of weight going onto those little hooves!

The welfare teams regularly do x-rays, give pain relief and work with Bransby farriers to help make them better again.

Pudding Loves

gift of food

Pudding loves carrots. It’s her favourite food and when her handles come along with a fresh bunch Pudding starts to lick her lips. She can’t wait to get started on the crunchy, sweet snack.

Pudding and friends

Pudding is a happy girl who loves her friends at Bransby Horses. She enjoys spending time with them and playing games, running around the paddock and eating grass. She loves to roll in the mud and play tag with her friends!

Pudding with ball

Pudding loves playing with the amazing team at Bransby Horses with her enrichment toys. The main aim of the toys is to keep Pudding entertained. She finds they keep her mind active and extend the time it takes doing normal activities, such as eating.

Caring for Pudding

The welfare of equines like Pudding throughout the UK is a prime concern for Bransby Horses. Owning a pony can give great pleasure but there is also a big responsibility involved with the care and wellbeing of the pony. The Animal Welfare Act 2006 requires that we ensure any horse, pony, donkey or mule for which we are responsible, whether on a permanent or a temporary base has:

  • A suitable environment to live in
  • A healthy diet
  • Is able to behave normally
  • Has appropriate company
  • Is protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease

Thanks from Pudding

Pudding, like so many ponies at our charity, may not have had the best start in life, but now she is safe and happy.

Thanks to you we can continue to give horses, ponies, donkeys and mules their happy ending. See how you can help more horses like Pudding.
