Bransby Horses received a two hour warning from the Environment Agency this morning to say the Till Washlands may be flooded to protect further flooding in Lincoln.
While the warning gave us chance to act and remove any animals from affected fields the full extent of damage on our vital pastures will not be known for a number of days.
The Environment Agency are currently assessing the live situation and have promised to keep everyone updated as things develop.
We have moved approximately 70 horses from the areas which may be affected and are closely monitoring all ditches and low points.
Due to localised flooding the Visitor Centre has been closed for the next 48 hours and all non-essential staff have been sent home.
Any equines in fields affected by the unprecedented rain have been relocated to drier areas of the farm and it is hoped Storm Babet will pass quickly.
Sally Banton Executive Director of Engagement and Income Generation said: “Due to the unprecedented levels of rain there is significant surface water flooding at either end of the village and so the decision to close our visitor centre has been made. All our equines are safe and we are monitoring the flooding status from our control centre in the village.”
